Comics, neglected

I’ve been trying for I think three weeks now to find time to work on the next page of The Heavenly Bride or 10 Confessions & A Kiss.

Yep, you guessed it. I got sick again, and my work got backed up again, and I’ve been struggling to catch up and avoid angry client angst again. How do I do it? :-p~~~ And I’m starting to think maybe there’s a connection to these horrible allergy spawned sinus infection sick attacks and my failing quest to lose weight. Because, you see, every time a diet starts to work and I feel my pants loosen some dust is thrown in my face by some vengeful vacuum cleaner and I’m sick for three to a million days. There has to be a connection.

I’ve also been trying to garner some interest from fellow creators in my new side distro and mini comic exchange program. I thought about how I was handling things and did some research. Originally I was going to set up the store so that mini-comic and zine folks could have an account and upload their own stuff, but I happened across some reports of folks who take money and don’t deliver. I have no way of controlling that, so I’ve decided instead that once in a while I’ll take submissions and purchase books outright for my stock. Other distros handle it that way, so it seems to be a pretty good system.

I changed the mini-book exchange to be a bit more creator friendly as well. At first I told folks if they wanted me to distribute their stuff to the list I am building, to send me $1 a book. With the cost of envelopes, gas to the post office, and stamps (50% of which would be overseas postage), that’s less than what it costs to go it by yourself. So I’m not expecting a profit here.

Now folks are encouraged to send me books for free, but with the understanding there’s no guarantee on my part. If I don’t have the money that week to send things on, then things will have to wait.

I put out a call for submissions for folks to send me their books for me to put in the distro. Outright purchase on my part: I’m looking for five titles.

The response has been under underwhelming. And I do find it weird. I mean, if I stumbled across a call for submissions that didn’t care about me fitting into any particular niche I’d go for it. 🙂 Maybe I haven’t put the word out in the right places.

It’s too soon for me to put out advertisements for the distro, though. So I’ll just sit and wait I think. OOAK Leaf never brought me any money. In all these years I’ve had it, I’ve gotten five requests for free stuff, and one scam that used Paypal’s policies to force me to fork out my grocery money to them. OOAK Leaf gets looked at once in a while, but I’m not particularly eager to divert myself wholly into it. I think it would be a mistake. It’s more of a hobby for me, something for me to tinker with (and break) once in a while.

But. If you know of anyone that has a mini-comic or zine looking to be in someone’s distro, I’ve got submissions open. I’m looking for five titles to purchase, and I will purchase books outright. No contracts. You can see the submission guidelines here:
