A Matter of Clothing

I like the characters of the World Akashik to have clothing both “traditional” (i.e. out of date) and contemporary. It just depends. There are parts of the world where traditional clothing are still worn as daily wear, and I’m not necessarily speaking of third world countries or places inhabited by the Amish. You’ll still see a kimono being worn in Japan, or… whatever those dresses are called in Germany… and believe it or not, blue jeans are considered a traditional piece of clothing for my people. And, if you pay attention, for Americans in general. We’ve been wearing them a *long* time. It’s unheard of not to have blue jeans in your chest of drawers.

So these links to “traditional” styles are subtle ways for the characters to express their origins and even preferences. Taus, by example, has more than uniforms to wear. But what styles should she choose? I prefer Mandarin collars for her, actually, and anything of Chinese influence. But she has another mode that I won’t get to touch on in Heavenly Bride but very very little… Byzantine. Which had styles influenced by the Far East once upon a time, little to people’s knowledge, but was primarily Greek with some Roman still at play. These three things are important to her make up.

So here you go, a developmental peek. Taus in a formal dress she may never get to wear, being a lowly slave and all.
