Taus was raped: Heavenly Bride, a few pages ago. And I wasn’t expecting a large reaction, but some reaction wouldn’t have surprised me either. I did get some, too, from the people who speak to me personally. Everyone now hates Lhung.
I mean, the guy walks in on the tail end of the event and shuns Taus as if she were the plague. Why wouldn’t everyone be mad at him? As one reader pointed out, though, it’s quite a lot like real life. And as another pointed out, they might have reacted that way themselves. And another couldn’t understand why it could happen at all, why he would react that way. Didn’t he love her?
Yes, he loves her. But put yourself in his shoes a bit. What has he seen? Did he see the rape, or has he seen her with other men taking sexual favors? What did he see when he walked in on her that day? He has only so much information to work with.
Someone amusingly pointed out that when it comes to this life, he’s also less than a year old as well. He’s a whippersnapper, all inexperienced and wet behind the ears. Or whiskers. Or whatever it is that Celestial Dragons have.
The issue with Taus’s rape for me, the writer goes beyond that though. I didn’t want to play a Red Sonja with this event – I didn’t want it to be the catalyst for something else because doing that is a very overdone tactic. But in Taus’s situation, it was also the only plausible one to push things forward. She’s a sexual object in the eyes of many around her; she’s not even sentient. She’s a thing. Poor little thing.
It’s over now, at least, and the events that happen after this will start showing other things. But I will tell you this: for Taus, that event will always be there much in the same way it will always be there for women who experience it in real life.

the clarification helps and some of us may have forgotten about earlier in the comic Lhung DID witness her taking sexual favors for money but only having SEEN and not investigated further as to WHY she had to do it (ie may have been the only option or whatever reason that only the writer knows etc) said writer does have a point. however our attention was pulled elsewhere by his decision and the story moved on from there until now. heh
so yeah from his point of view she was taking sexual favors on a date and if she was going to do that why bother continuing the date.

Where is the betrothed-guy hate?!? He is the one that started it! Not Lung! He’s the freak that got drunk, couldn’t get it up, got pissy and handed Taus off. It’s HIS fault Taus got raped, not Lung’s.
Lung’s reaction is/was rather cruddy. He’s also less than a year old. He is a toddler walking around in an adult body expected to know adult things. Keep this in mind when actual adult people decide to get in his pants or send him off to whore houses. He. Is. A. BABY. He’s younger than his students. Don’t let the fact that he is male blind you to this fact.
It is a crappy situation for both. Crappy for Taus because she’s the one having to deal with this on a daily bases competently alone and isolated- kinda like real life.
Crappy for Lung because he does not know what is going on. He only knows what little people have explained to him and, let’s face it, no one has a high opinion of Taus.
So it’s not like he’s getting told anything remotely accurate to base an informed let alone accurate opinion on what he saw. He just saw her getting paid for sex in an ally surrounded by booze. That is unhealthy, unclean and not a way a person should live. The fact that Taus does not have a choice is competently missed because how would he have known?
So yes, Lung is an ass in this situation. He is, and always will be, an ass- get use to it. He is NOT how ever the reason why Taus got raped nor is he on the Raping Taus is a Good Thing Team. That is the fault of the society they live in and her “beloved” husband to be that NO ONE is hating on! It’s okay to hate the husband to be. Please do not let his rice eating ways protect him from your hate. He deserve it. Because he’s A-an accessory to rape because he has no problems telling a slave to bend over because he does not see slaves as people, just dolls to stick his junk in. B- an all round unpleasant person who only lives because his family is required to keep him alive by law to pass on THEIR blood line. So it’s not like he’s seen or treated like a person either (you would think he would learn and be a better person because of that. Nope. Not this guy).
Lung deserves some hate as well but for different reasons, not because he’s knowingly allowing or encouraging rape to happen. If he had known better- actually knew that it was rape, not a transaction, he would have reacted differently. He wouldn’t have left her the way he did.
